Stem Cell Therapy is considered “the new frontier” in pain management and is at the pinnacle of regenerative medicine. The most common condition we treat with stem cell therapy is low back pain from degenerative disc disease (discogenic lumbar pain). This is a chronic pain condition notorious for how hard it is to treat through conventional treatments like epidural steroid injections or lumbar fusion surgery. Stem cell therapy offers a new and exciting alternative to this problem.
Although stem cell therapy is considered an experimental treatment, when successful, it can replace invasive surgical procedures that often lead to complications or, in time, more spinal degeneration at the levels adjacent to those fused. As with all other treatments we offer, the success of stem cell therapy hinges on establishing a correct diagnosis and on the severity of the condition.
How Stem Cell Therapy Works
In comparison to prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma therapy, stem cell therapy uses healthy adult stem cells harvested from the patient’s own tissues and takes advantage of the ability of these cells to replace injured or degenerated cells and promote regeneration.
Adult stem cells can be harvested from adipose tissue or bone marrow. When injected into injured or degenerated tissue (tendons, ligaments, lumbar discs, etc.), stem cells release growth factors that act as mediators for the healing and regeneration of the existing original tissue.
Here’s the process:
We collect bone marrow from the hip bone or adipose tissue from the abdomen or other parts of the body.
We then harvest the stem cells through a centrifugation process and concentrate them using our proprietary algorithms and methods.
The stem cells are then injected into the affected areas using precise live radiological guidance.
This procedure can last anywhere from 1-3 hours, including the mandatory rest and recovery time after the lumbar disc procedure.
We offer office-based sedation when necessary and close follow-up after each procedure, tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
Other conditions treated with stem cell therapy are musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions of the shoulder, knee, and hip.
We also discuss the general health of each individual patient and can tailor their nutrition and fitness programs based on individual laboratory and genetic data in a team-based approach.
Our diagnostic approach to your symptoms and conditions allows us to identify properly the causes for your pain and to treat them with a long term solution. Using non-surgical treatments and the latest methods and technologies, we understand your lifestyle, recognize your challenges, diagnose your conditions, and find long term solutions.
